GENERAL

The Mountain View Family Youth Center will be open after school from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Cost is $2 per day and includes different activities such as basketball, skating, volleyball, board games, and more for each day of the week. The Howell County Democrat's Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month, rotating its visits among the towns of West Plains, Willow Springs and Mt. View. All Democrats are invited to attend. For more information contact: Secretary, Barry DeBrown At 257-7625.

The Ozark Independent Living will be visiting Eminence the 4th of each month in the Eminence Senior Citizens Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free informational services are provided for the disabled and elderly such as assistive devices, legislative efforts, peer support, advocacy, TAP, TAP Internet, and information and referrals. Independent In-Home services include basic personal care, nurse visits, advanced personal care, respite, and homemaker chores. There is also Consumer Directed Services for your home. They will be having a guest speaker for October, Mr. Garfield Clark, from Clarksville, Arkansas. Mr. Clark will be discussing dietary tips for managing diabetes; the making of herbal salves and giving gardening tips on improving the soil. Everyone is invited to attend

Benefit Fish Fry for Donald Pulliam, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the residence of Charles and Evelyn (Pulliam) Hyslop on County Road, 445, approximately 2 miles east of Birch Tree, down the hill from Norris Auto Shop. During the afternoon there will be live music and an auction at 3:00 pm. Donations are welcome during the day of the auction. Bring your lawn chair and visit with family, friends and neighbors as we help Donald, who recently suffered a serious stroke.

MO-ARK Pullers will have an Antique Tractor and Truck Pull on October 18th. Tractors start at 10 a.m. and tucks start at 6 p.m. located at the Thayer Industrial Park. A concession stand will be available and seating is limited so bring your own chairs. Admission is 5$ and children 12 and under are FREE.

Hunter's Safety Course, at the cafeteria in the Mountain View Elementary. The course will take place from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. In order to take the course you must be 11 years old or older.

West Plains Wal-Mart is helping our Community go Green! On October 25th from 8 to 4. What to Bring: Plastic Hangers, Magazines, Aluminum Cans, Clean Plastic Bottles, Cardboard Boxes (no wax coating), Grocery Bags. In Exchange you will receive a Wal-Mart Reusable Bag. 

Global Communications in Mountain View will be holding a Safety Days on October 25th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Police and Fire Departments and the Ambulance will be there to show the kids and public what they do for us. The Pomona Fire Station is sponsoring a Fall Festival on October 25 at 6 p.m. with free food, games, music, and door prizes (donations are welcome) Food includes spaghetti, bread, desserts, tea and coffee. There will also be live music by Swift Creek

An 8th annual Car Show will be held October 25th on The Square in Winona starting at 1 p.m. and judging at 3 p.m. A Burnout Contest at Lions Park will start at 4 p.m. then a Costume Judging will follow at 5 p.m. Games will be after that. Trunk or Treat will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Halloween Parade at 7 p.m. All cars from the Car Show are welcome. Line-up is at 6 p.m. at the baseball field.

A peaceful Rally is being held in West Plains Saturday afternoon on October 25th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the program starting at 4 p.m. People from around the Ozarks that are concerned about the 850 billion dollar bailout package will be on hand to hear from area political candidates about the bailout. The Mountain View-Birch Tree school district will be hosting open forums during the month of October to provide information about the conditions in the schools and the reasons the district is proposing to build a new middle school. The first open forum will be held at October 14th at the Birch Tree Elementary, followed by one October 21 at Mountain View Elementary, and the third October 28 at Liberty High School. All will start at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Each meeting will include a tour, during which school administrators will point out improvements planned for that building. Third Dimension, haunted attraction is open 7pm- Midnight every weekend till the end of October on South Elm in Mountain View in the old Angelica building.  It costs five dollars for adults, three bucks for ages 7-12 and just one dollar for kids under six.
